Bicester & Oxford Riding Club

The Bicester and Oxford Riding Club (BORC) is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of all its members to ensure a positive and enjoyable experience.

 

All those involved in BORC activities, whether they are participants, coaches, officials or spectators are therefore required to adhere to the standards of behaviour – set out within this Code of Conduct – and to support the mission of the BORC. This Code of Conduct has been developed to ensure the highest possible standards of competition and sportsmanship as well as promoting fairness, honesty and positive behaviour in relation to the conduct of all those representing BORC.

 

BORC respects the rights, dignity and worth of every person involved in its activities. BORC is committed to team members enjoying horse riding in an environment free from discrimination, intimidation, harassment and abuse. 

Members of BORC are solely responsible for their conduct when representing the BRC. Members must therefore:

 

• Maintain high standards of personal behaviour at all times.

• Conduct themselves in a reasonable manner relating to offensive language and temperament.

• Refrain from making derogatory, offensive or abusive social media posts relating to the Club or individual members, former members, coaches, sponsors or any other affiliate.

• Respect the decisions of Officials, Coaches or Committee members, making all appeals through the appropriate formal process and respecting the final decision.

• Not condone, or allow to go unchallenged, any form of bullying, harassment or discrimination if witnessed.

• Refrain from the use of and involvement with illegal substances at all times.

• Not act in an unlawful manner.

• Not encourage or pressure others into acting against the Code.

• Understand the repercussions of any breaches of this Code of Conduct as set out in the Constitution of the Club.

 

To minimise the risks, members must abide by the following conditions at all times when undertaking any activity under the auspices of BORC:

 

1. In the case of an accident, the Instructor or designated First Aider will be responsible for managing the incident.  Unless asked to assist, do not move a casualty or take any action not requested by the Instructor or First Aider.
 

2. All instructions given by the Instructor, Coach or Committee members must be followed.
 

3. Members must be honest when detailing their own and their horse’s abilities in order that they can be allocated into appropriate groups. If, however, within a class they feel they are uncomfortable with what is being asked of them, they may withdraw from part or all of a clinic or activity and express their concerns to the Coach or a Committee member.

 

4. Riders must be aware of how their horses are likely to react to unexpected situations in addition to how others in the group may react and should allow sufficient space

 when passing (left to left in schools) and be in adequate control to respond if incidents occur. Ensuring at all times the welfare of the pony/horse.
