About the Event
"An Introduction to Working Equitation, the fastest growing discipline in the UK!
So what is Working Equitation? WE comprises of 3 phases – Dressage, Ease of Handling, Speed and at International level, cattle penning. There are 6 different levels that you can compete at, from the lowest level to the highest; Walk & Trot, Novice, Inter B, Inter A, Juniors and Advanced.
Its origins come from the original purpose of using the horse in the fields for herding and farming, refined and sophisticated into a competitive sport with the emphasis on the horse being asked to do things that they might encounter working in the field and the added requirement of elegance and speed of execution.
This clinic will be run by Emma Taylor, approved Instructor for The Association of British Working Equitation and will focus on 2nd Phase – Ease of Handling. This consists of a course of obstacles, replicating those that may be found when working in the countryside. For example, a gate, a bridge and a jump. There are also other more technical obstacles such as the parallel slalom, straight slalom, barrels, rein back corridor, the varra and sideways pole, some of which at Advanced level require the horse and rider to perform flying changes in specific places in order to complete the obstacle correctly. Riders are given a mark out of ten for precision, submission and ease of movement for each obstacle. With levels right from Walk/Trot through to Advanced classes, Working Equitation really is a sport for all, from happy hacker to dressage diva, everyone is welcome!
